"Souper" Bowl Sunday
Sunday, February 5, after 11:00 service

Mark your calendar for Sunday, February 5th, following the 11 o'clock worship service, for some of the best homemade soup in town. The men of Briarcliff have a secret recipe that is sure to please. In addition, the ladies of the UMW will be making sandwiches to go along with that delicious soup. Proceeds from the event will fund the mission ministries of the UMW and the UMM. We hope to see you there.

Church Council Meeting
Sunday, February 5, 1:00 pm

This year's first church council meeting will be held in the Sanctuary on Sunday, February 5th at 1 pm. The meeting will follow the Souper Bowl Lunch. All council members, members of committees including chairpersons and members at large are asked to attend, as well as all church members.

UMW Meeting
Tuesday, February 7

The ladies of the UMW will meet Tuesday, February 7th at 10 am in the Bishop's Room. Robin C. Davis, R.N., M.N. – Executive Director of Global Health Action will be the speaker. She will have information on the goat project and the country where the need is great. The Margaret Circle will be collecting coins to buy another goat this year. The mission study on A Publication of Briarcliff United Methodist Church February 5th, 2012 May 5th will be on Haiti. Ms. Davis has worked in Haiti and will bring an interesting story in pictures and will give us information about the country's needs. Everyone is invited to join the group. And don't forget to save those coins!

Heart in Hand Society Luncheon
Thursday, February 9

The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women & Children's Board of Directors invites you to join them for their Heart & Hand Society Luncheon on Thursday, February 9th. Come help them celebrate the many hearts that have come together to support and serve the homeless women and children at the Atlanta Day Shelter. The guest speaker is Joe Kissack, author, screenwriter, publisher, film and television producer and entrepreneur. His book, The Fourth Fisherman, is an inspirational journey that will buoy your spirits and renew your hope and faith. The tickets are $50 per person; a table sponsorship for $400 provides 10 seats. The Mission Committee would love to have Briarcliff represented at a table for 10. Interested? Submit your check for $50 to Briarcliff indicating Heart and Hand in the memo section. The church will process payment in full for the luncheon. Deadline for registration is Sunday, February 5th.

Jesus Loves Me Valentine Party
Sunday, February 12

All children ages 4 and older are invited to our Valentine Party, Sunday, February 12 at 2:30. Meet in room 107 for crafts, games and snacks as we celebrate the fact that Jesus Loves Me!

Lands of the Bible
February 20 - March 2, 2012

Mike & Lisa Derrick invite you to take a trip to Israel & Palestine with them February 20th thru March 2nd, 2012. Explore the areas where Jesus was born, where He spent His childhood, where He started His ministry & where He was crucified to save mankind. The tour is planned by the Jerusalem Institute for Biblical Exploration and operated by Consolidated Tours Org. Inc. Brochures are available in Lisa's office.

Briarcliff News

Briarcliff Prayer Team

Members of Briarcliff gather together early on Thursday mornings to pray for our church. They gather in the church sanctuary at 8am. Following the prayer time they all head out to various eateries to enjoy breakfast and conversation. Everyone is welcome. This is a wonderful way to start your day.

Church Calendars and Sunday Bulletins

All church calendars are now posted on the Briarcliff website. Visit our calendars page to view the monthly prayer calendar, the monthly birthday/anniversary calendar, and a weekly church calendar. Also posted on the website is the weekly Sunday bulletin, found on the sermons & bulletins page.

Worship Quest

Children and youth are encouraged to participate in "Worship Quest." Ask an usher for a Worship Quest card. Each Sunday a different question will be presented to help focus on different aspects of worship. After the service is over, bring the completed card to Ms. Dena (in room 107) to receive a small treat.

Getting to Know You

Help us get to know you. Name tags for members & visitors are located in the church Narthex. On your way into the sanctuary stop by & pick up your name tag. We want to shake your hand & call you by name. We also want to care for you. If you notice that someone is missing from service for several weeks let us know so we can call and make sure they are okay.

Do We Have Your Email Address?

The church uses email to keep members informed about what is happening at the church. Each week the Briarcliff Newsletter, CliffNotes, is sent out to all those for whom we have email addresses. Additionally, reminders about upcoming meetings, notes from the pastor, and other announcements are being distributed via email. This is a very timely and cost effective way to keep members up to date with the latest information. Be sure to keep the church office informed with your current email address. Use the Sunday worship tear out to make changes to your information or call the church office. Oh, and be sure your junk mailbox is not filtering publications from Briarcliff.

The Pastor Will Be Away

Rev. Lisa Derrick & her husband, Mike, will be traveling to Israel on Sunday February 19th for a tour of the Holy Land. They will return to us on March 6th. Please pray for them as they travel and tour this wonderful land.
