N.E.T. Food Pantry
The NET Food Pantry assists people in the Northlake-Embry Hills-Tucker (NET) area with emergency food needs. The pantry is located in room 15 of the Tucker Recreation Center, 4898 LaVista Road and is open from 10:30am to 2:00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. No referral is required. The N.E.T. Food Pantry provides substantial food supplies to those in our community who are experiencing difficulty purchasing groceries. Supplies include powdered milk, rice, noodles, beans, soup, spaghetti sauce, canned vegetables-fruits-meats, crackers, peanut butter, jelly, grits & oatmeal, toilet paper, bar soap, as well as loaf bread and margarine which are kept frozen. Each church is responsible for keeping the required inventory of their assigned items stocked in the pantry year round and for staffing the pantry for one month each year. BUMC is responsible for stocking the pantry with tuna and Pork & Beans. In 2012, BUMC is asked to staff the NET Food Pantry for the month of August. The pantry typically serves 75 to 125 families each month and distributes two to three thousand pounds of food. Donations may be placed in the designated receptacles in the Fellowship Hall or Education Building. Contact Joe Farnell at JFarnell@BellSouth.net for more information or to volunteer. Trinity Table provides meals to approximately 400 homeless people per week. Each week, a different church or organization brings 75 gallons of soup, 1200 sandwiches and 35-40 volunteers for the Sunday afternoon meal. In addition to providing meals, other services include making clothing items available twice each month and providing legal assistance once each month through the Legal Clinic for the Homeless. Briarcliff United Methodist Church is responsible for the meal on the first Sunday of each year. Mariam Gilmer has been offering Hatha yoga classes at Briarcliff United Methodist Church since October 2008. While Mariam has had special training in yoga with seniors, kids and expectant mothers, the ongoing classes that she offers are designed for mixed level with the goal of helping participants create balance and flexibility in their bodies and to complement their daily activities through mindful presence at the time of practice. |
